Serena Williams is considered a master when it comes to blending fashion with sports. The tennis player with a 20-year career has made some notable fashion decisions that are still recognized today. But most recently, she talked about the Cameroonian attire she wore to the 2002 French Open.

On the tennis court, the 23-time Grand Slam winner made a statement with her attire. She also amused everyone with her distinctive wardrobe throughout her career, wearing catsuits and denim skirts, among other things.

Serena Williams talks about her Cameroon outfit

In a recent video, the former world number one, Williams talks about her famous 2002 French Open outfit and what made her take the Cameroon look. She said, “This one is probably one of my all-time favorite looks. This is the year when France won the World Cup and it was at the French Open and it was huge. They had this Cameroon outfit which, I thought, was so cool.” 

According to the tennis player, the whole outfit was like a soccer player. She had high socks on and soccer kinda cleat shoes minus the cleats. However, that year she wore two outfits. In 2002, the American tennis player won her first Roland Garros title but picked up the victory in a different outfit as this was only for fashion.

Notably, the tennis star was nervous before going out to the tennis court and said, “I can’t wear this. I’ll just wear the second outfit. And I actually only wore this outfit two times because it was really all about the fashion and less about the tennis and I was like, no I wanna do well. I wanna win. This was such an iconic moment in sport…” However, over time, she realized that it would be such a win, both in tennis and fashion.

Williams’ maiden French Open victory 

The tennis star’s maiden French Open victory came against her elder sister, Venus Williams. The American tennis players’ big victory came after almost three years after the first Grand Slam title that came in 1999 at the US Open
