In order to keep up with the safety protocols, the Australian Open 2021 will require players to undergo strict quarantine rules. The US Open 2020 and the French Open 2020 had followed similar regulations. However, to maintain strict procedures, an entire WTA tournament has been canceled. All these efforts are being made to accommodate tennis players with proper care and protection.
The tournament in Limoges was scheduled to take place from December 14 to December 20. Since the tournament dates are in proximity to the Australian Open, the organizers scrapped the WTA event for this year. It would give the players adequate time, and the Grand Slam would be safer for everyone involved.
“The arrangement planned by Tennis Australia […] would deprive the tournament of the participation of players appearing in the 150 world premieres, which obviously would make no sense,” announced the organizers. [Translated from French using Google Translate]

Ashleigh Barty might return in Australian Open 2021
The Australian Open commences during the third week of January and is active for a couple of weeks. Usually, players reach Melbourne by the end of the first week of January. Since the tournament requires a mandatory quarantine phase, they will have land on the continent well before the tournament begins.
The Grand Slam event will be a challenge for the organizers. After the success of the US Open 2020 and the French Open 2020, it is a test for the organizers to see whether they can pull off the event without any significant disturbances.
