This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite brought new beginnings for the company in so many ways. This was the first Dynamite episode of 2022, and it was the very first time the program aired on the TBS network since their deal with TNT ended.

However, things took a drastic turn for Rey Fenix because of a gruesome injury that was uncomfortable to watch live on the air.

Rey Fenix snapped his elbow inside out

The Lucha Bros won the tag team gold when they defeated The Young Bucks in a classic cage match at the All Out PPV last year. However, the duo couldn’t defend their championship tonight on AEW Dynamite.

The reason for that was a spot where Luchasaurus executed a chokeslam on Fenix outside the ring. When Fenix hit the table, his elbow landed in an unconventional way and twisted inside out, while his body fell on his elbow.

The injury looked so devastating that AEW’s official YouTube page has blurred the scene where his elbow snapped. Now, AEW is notoriously known for botching moves on a weekly basis, but this injury could sideline Fenix for months if not years.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Fenix was immediately rushed to the hospital after the match ended.

“Rey Fenix was taken to the hospital. The belief is he likely dislocated his elbow, which given how evil the injury looked, would be a blessing.”

As of now, there has been no official statement from Fenix or the AEW medical team. However, the injury sure looked gory.

Tonight’s win of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus was supposed to be the ultimate babyface win. However, Fenix’s injury grabbed all the attention.

We wish Rey Fenix well and hope this gruesome injury doesn’t affect his career in the long run.
