WWE already set Brock Lesnar as The Next Big Thing when he debuted. They quickly sent him up the ranks to face the top superstars on the roster and won the WWW Championship at the age of 25 years old within 126 days after his debut.

In his first few months, Lesnar had matches with the then WWE veterans Rob Van Dam, Bubba Ray Dudley, and The Hardy Boys. Furthermore, he faced legends of the game like The Undertaker, The Rock, and Hulk Hogan in the first six months of his debut.

WWE had already seen a potential WWE superstar in Brock Lesnar and he had a meteoric rise in a short span. Everyone remembers his series of matches with The Undertaker and The Big Show. However, his match with Hulk Hogan on the August 8, 2002 episode of SmackDown is also a classic.

How did Brock Lesnar defeat Hulk Hogan?

The Hulkster had already made a successful career until 2002. He had returned to WWE earlier that year as a part of nWo after Vince McMahon purchased WCW. After separating from nWo, Hulk Hogan after six months faced Brock Lesnar, who was in his rookie year. The match was for The Rock’s WWE Title shot at SummerSlam.

The match started with a huge pop as both Hogan and Lesnar had a stare-down in the ring. In the first two minutes, The Hulkster got a hang of who Lesnar was as The Beast tossed him around while grappling. However, Hogan took the charge of the match until Lesnar skillfully got The Hulkster’s legs locked at the ring post.

Lesnar connected a power bomb and attempted a pinfall, but Hogan kicked off at two. Hogan was also successful to connect a Leg Drop and tried to pin him, but Lesnar kicked off at two.

The match ended with Brock Lesnar connecting an ‘F-5’ and then grabbing Hogan into a Bear Hug hold. Hogan fainted during the hold, eventually ending the match and Lesnar taking the win. Brock Lesnar later faced The Rock at SummerSlam and defeated him to win the WWE Championship.

Why did Stone Cold Steve Austin never faced Lesnar in 2002?

Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar were on a collision course quite often. While they never fought, they teased fans with a brawl on SmackDown that had the WWE Universe craving to see them share the ring in a 1 on 1 match.

WWE saw potential and booked them for the King of the Ring 2002. They booked Stone Cold to lose, but he refused to take the pin against a newcomer without a proper storyline between the two. Austin was a veteran in the company at the time and never worked without a proper build-up.

A decade later, when Brock Lesnar appeared on Stone Cold’s show, they talked about this and Austin felt he should have had that match. Also, Lesnar held no grudges, as he knew what Austin’s mindset was and he thought it was best for business.
