WWE star John Cena has been finding his feet as a Hollywood star in recent years. After a few good outings at the box office, Cena’s career really took off after he starred in the DC film The Suicide Squad in 2021.

Cena earned plaudits for his portrayal of the Peacemaker and it led to the 16x time WWE world champion getting his own series playing the same character. Although a second season of the popular show is already announced, the recent slew of changes at DC cast doubt over Cena’s future with the franchise.

The new bosses at DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran are looking for a reboot of the DCEU, which also contains the Peacemaker character.

This also meant dropping Henry Cavill as Superman weeks after his return to the franchise. With Cena’s character having ties to the DCEU and Justice League, the future of the anti-hero hangs in the balance.

Over on social media, fans believe should continue in the role and expressed their support for the Peacemaker star.

Fans want John Cena to continue as Peacemaker

Following the debacle around Dwayne Johnson and his Black Adam movie, DC has announced plans to wipe the slate clean with its cinematic universe.

It means that the previous DCEU that contained the likes of Henry Cavill’s Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman would no longer be a part of the new universe going forward.

As such, there are fears Gunn may even shutdown Peacemaker as it is part of the previous DCEU. In fact, one episode of the series also featured an appearance from the DCEU Justice League.

However, fans who enjoyed The Franchise Player in his role and want him to continue. They warned DC against any such action.

A user wrote on Twitter, “Yes don’t change. He’s an icon as Peacemaker now.” Another one wrote, “Don’t even think about replacing my man, James!. Here are some of the top reactions of fans backing John Cena to continue as Peacemaker.

Some fans believed that Peacemaker with Cena in the lead will stay on as it is James Gunn’s own project.

Will John Cena return as Peacemaker?

The success of the first season of John Cena’s Peacemaker proved that the show had legs and could carry on for another season.

In February 2022, James Gunn announced the plans for a Peacemaker season two. Fans loved Cena’s portrayal of the misunderstood anti-hero and welcomed the news of seeing him again in the role.

Also, despite the changes going on at DC, The Champ himself shared a post on Instagram indicating that he will indeed get at least one more season of him as Peacemaker.

The actor has impressed in the role, and it has really given a major boost to his career. But with Gunn and his team looking to give a new identity to the DCU and recast a lot of characters, a third season and John Cena’s future with the franchise is not that certain.
