The Hollywood Megastars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Momoa share a brotherly bond on-screen. In fact, last year, The Rock, on his daughter Tiana Johnson’s birthday, commemorated Jason Momoa for accepting his special request.

Tiana Johnson is a fan of Jason Momoa’s DC-comic-based character, Aquaman. So, The Rock requested Momoa to send his daughter a surprise birthday wish through a video message, which he did.

In return, Johnson wrote“I had to make the call… it’s what daddy’s do. I can’t thank my brother @prideofgypsies enough for making this adoring 3yr old’s birthday the best EVER. Her reaction is priceless and what it’s all about. I love you back, uso, and this kind of stuff will ALWAYS be the best part of our fame.”

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson referred to Jason Momoa as “brother” in his caption, wrestling and Hollywood fans reunited. However, they also speculated that Johnson and Momoa might have a potential family connection between them.

Is Jason Momoa Related To Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock?

The Aquaman star and the WWE superstar come from the culturally rich Samoan dynasty. In addition, The Rock and Jason Momoa share a similar career. We hate to break it up to you, but Johnson and Momoa are not related despite their similar ethnic backgrounds.

The two men share no family ties, even though they are of Samoan descent. However, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa have connections with the island of Hawaii, but they still are poles apart from their backgrounds.

Momoa and Johnson’s Upbringing

Jason Momoa was born in Nanakuli, Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1979. Just like Momoa, his parents were also artistically inclined because his mother was a photographer and his father was a painter. Unfortunately, when Jason Momoa was a newborn, his parents drove apart.

As a result, Momoa moved from Hawaii to Iowa when only 6 months old. However, the actor strongly identifies with the Hawaiian heritage because he spent most of his childhood traveling to his birthplace to visit his father.

Aquaman’s father, Joseph Momoa, is of Samoan and Hawaiian ancestry. Whereas Momoa’s mother, Coni Lemke, comes from German, Irish, and Native American descent. After high school, the actor moved back to Hawaii and enrolled at the University of Hawaii.

On the other hand, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was born on 2nd May 1972 in Hayward, California. Johnson’s father, Rocky Johnson, was half Samoan and half African.

The Rock’s father was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, and his mother, Ata Johnson, was Samoan. Unlike Jason Momoa, Dwayne Johnson attended high school in Honolulu, Nashville, Tennessee, and Bethlehem. The former WWE Champion identifies as Samoan.

Both men have had their schooling in Hawaii and were raised in the United States. Often Samoans are confused with Hawaiians because both islands are on the Pacific Ocean.

Dwayne Johnson and Jason Momoa’s Careers

Wrestling fans knew Dwayne Johnson before he booked his ticket to Hollywood. Johnson followed his father’s steps in professional wrestling and signed Vince McMahon’s WWE in 1996. WWE gave him the nickname, which became famous worldwide by the name of The Rock.

The Great One had the time of his life when he wrestled against many WWE legends. After being called “People’s Champ” in the WWE, Johnson jumped ship to Hollywood. Since the time Dwayne Johnson moved to Hollywood, he has gained popularity among film industry fans.

Before starting his acting career, the Aquaman star stepped into modeling. When Momoa was 19, Hawaiian designers Takeo Kobayashi and Eric Chandler motivated him to try modeling.

The very next year, Jason Momoa won the Hawaii Model of the Year award. Then, when Momoa was 20-years-old, he started his acting career by bagging his first role in Baywatch Hawaii.

As of now, Momoa and Johnson are actors, even though they started differently in their careers. But, soon, the Aquaman star wishes to cross paths with The Rock in Hollywood.

Have Jason Momoa and The Rock co-starred in a movie?

The 42-year-old Jason Momoa hopes that he will share the big screen with fellow behemoth Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson one day. Once Jason Momoa appeared virtually as a guest on The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the conversation with Jimmy Fallon, Momoa cheekily addressed his wish to make a movie with The Rock only if he is available.

 

Momoa said, “I met him almost 20 years ago in Hawaii. We tried to get together and make a movie together, but it’s just he’s way busier than I am, and I’m pretty busy right now, so, one of these days!”

The Rock and Jason Momoa have not starred together in a movie. But, for those who don’t know, just like Momoa, even Johnson has joined the DC Universe. Johnson will be a part of an anti-hero DC-comic-based character, the Black Adam project.

After the success of Momoa starring in Zack Snyder’s Justice LeagueMomoa will return to the role of Aquaman sequel titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. But, if someday, DCEU explores their superheroes to broader imaginations, then Aquaman and Black Adam could cross paths in the future.
