“Austin Going to Bless…”: Wrestling Veteran Reveals If Stone Cold Wanted to Work With Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

There were several famous feuds throughout the Attitude Era. The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin were two of them. Additionally, both have provided several classic moments in WWE history. Talking about them on the Grilling JR podcast, former WWE commentator Jim Ross Reveals Stone Cold Steve Austin wanted to work with The Rock.

On the podcast, Paul Bromwell asks Ross, after Montreal Screwjob when The Hart Foundation left WWE, who pushed The Rock and Stone Cold’s rivalry.

On which Ross replied, “Anybody wasn’t pushing for it all. Why would anybody in their right mind have any issues? Seriously? Yeah, about a young, athletic heel. Working with another guy you want to get over Stone Cold. When they liked each other. They had great chemistry. There was nothing not to lie, there was nothing to worry about in that regard.”

“But obviously Austin was going to bless the booking because he could do that at that time. And it could bless the booking and he did he wanted to work with Dwayne. And that’s why they had chosen for Yeah, yeah, he wanted to work with Yeah; they headline 15,17, and 19 WrestleMania.” [55:22-56:02]

Furthermore, he added, they wanted to work together since they had similar wrestling styles. They both are aggressive and physical. Also, they both clearly communicated.

The Rock vs Stone Cold Feud

One of the most memorable feuds in WWE history was between Steve Austin and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Furthermore, both contributed significantly to WWE’s popularity in the late 1990s by drawing everyone’s attention to the WWF.

Austin and Rock have faced off three times at WrestleMania, with Stone Cold dominating and winning the 15th and 17th WrestleMania. However, the last time they fought together was at WrestleMania 19, when The Brahma Bull defeated “The Texas Rattlesnake” for the first time on the grand stage. Which later became the Stone Cold retirement match.

However, Austin returns to WWE for one match at WrestleMania 38 after a 19-year absence. Nonetheless, Austin triumphed over Kevin Owens on the opening night of WrestleMania 38. Additionally, the Rock hasn’t featured on WWE in a long time since he’s been very busy with other ventures.
