SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley is currently dominating the Women’s division.

In fact, her current reign has extended beyond 265 days, proving her dominant position on the roster.

Furthermore, Sasha Banks and Bayley are the Women’s Tag Team Champions as well.

WWE Superstar Bayley reveals the process of transitioning from the “face” persona to “heel” persona

Bayley famously took her character in a new direction. She changee it from the kid-friendly “face” to the obnoxious “heel”.

It was towards the latter part of 2019 when she took the decision of making this change.

During an interview with Newsweek, she opened up about how the process has been and the difficulties she had to endure during the transition.

The American wrestler reveals that after initially turning heel, she did not feel quite confident about the move.

There have been moments when she pondered over whether this was a mistake in her career or not.

“When it first happened, I didn’t know if I made a huge mistake or if I took the wrong turn in my career. As I started working live events and figuring out who I’m going to be from now on, it kind of woke me up a bit and relit a fire inside of me.” 

Eventually, after working live events, she reached the conclusion that this character can actually help her in taking her career to the next level.

Her focus was purely on building her character instead of letting the empty arena distract her from the choice she made.

“I think in a weird way, this empty arena stuff has really helped my character as far as me not knowing whether the crowd is going to react to it or not. I just had to focus on me and how I wanted to portray myself.”

The champion opens up about the reason behind turning heel

She decided to change her character/persona following her defeat at Hell in a Cell by Charlotte.

Bayley admits crying over the loss. However, she wanted to return as a different Bayley than what the world was seeing up until now.

It was her idea to try different avenues during the course of her career.

“It was kind of my idea, I pitched everything I wanted to do and my look and all this stuff and when it was approved I was like, ‘Oh crap. Well, this better work’.”
