Bruce Prichard Explains the Restrictions WWE Put on Brock Lesnar After His Release in 2004

May it be the UFC or WWE – there is literally nobody who can match the magnitude of the ‘Beast Incarnate‘ Brock Lesnar in the entire professional fighting and wrestling business.

The eight-time World Champion is Vince McMahon’s favorite legitimate top star and money maker. But, it wasn’t too nice between the company and Lesnar when the ‘Beast Incarnate’ infamously left WWE after his match against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX.

WWE did not allow Brock Lesnar to wrestle anywhere!

Brock Lesnar wanted to pursue his NFL dreams. The WWE and he came to mutual terms on his release as long as Lesnar did not wrestle for any other promotion.

Speaking on his Something To Wrestle with Bruce Prichard podcast, Prichard disclosed why WWE did not allow Brock Lesnar to work for any other wrestling promotion. He also spoke on why WWE wanted to put a restraining order on Brock Lesnar when he violated his contract to appear for NJPW.

“Yeah, because again, we made the investment in training him initially and getting him to the popularity that he was at. Brock was unhappy, wanted to do other things. That’s fine, you can try other things. However, we had made the investment in him in the sports-entertainment category and wanted to protect that so, just strictly business.” H/t PostWrestling.com

Brock Lesnar continued wrestling in NJPW and won the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Lesnar’s final match in Japan was against the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle. He lost the champion versus champion match.

Lesnar’s return to WWE

The ‘Beast Incarnate’ returned to WWE after a successful and dominating run in the UFC. Since his return, Vince seems to ride high on Lesnar’s star power, more so than ever. The Beast even broke The Undertaker‘s 21-0 streak at WrestleMania XXX.

Brock Lesnar has not been on WWE TV since Drew McIntyre dethroned him at WrestleMania 36 to become the WWE Champion. His WWE contract expired earlier in the summer, but we do not expect him to sign elsewhere.

Why? It is just a matter of time until the crowds return at full capacity. Once we have that, Vince McMahon will definitely call up his favorite beast and ‘do what heart says’ Brock will return. That’s a SPOILER!
