But Johnson, in his teens, understood that his father hustled through the night so that their family could eat. The Rock could see the pain that his father had to go through when he was in the squared circle.

“My dad (like all wrestlers of his era) had to find a way to numb the pain. Nightly grind = pain. But pain = getting paid,” Dwayne Johnson added.
