Dwayne Johnson has built quite a reputation for breathing new life into movie franchises over the years. He brings his unmatched charisma and worldwide recognition to the big screen, which can turn into large profits for movie makers. His success with movies like Jumanji and the Fast & Furious franchise is a great example of his box office prowess. It was with this hope that DC roped in his services for the Black Adam film. The Rock went all the way in promoting his first superhero venture as a new beginning for the much-maligned DC movie franchise. Now that the movie has been running for close to two months, the numbers are good, but not what the studio or the actor expected.

Black Adam was one of DC’s highly anticipated movies in recent years and it delivered on its promise of action and good storytelling. The Brahma Bull heavily promoted the movie to ensure its box office success. The numbers, though, tell a different story. But now recently, The Rock tweeted about the profit his superhero venture would make and drew a comparison with one of Marvel’s first superhero movies.

However, the fans were less than impressed and pointed it out as a desperate attempt by DJ to change the ongoing narrative around his film.

Fans not happy as Dwayne Johnson claims Black Adam’s success

According to reports, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam could lose as much as $100 million at the box office. So far, the movie has earned $385 million worldwide, while it needs $600 million globally to break even as per the reports.

The film cost $195 million to make with $100 million spent on marketing. Although the movie was The Rock’s highest opening at the box office, the overall numbers may be a little short of what DC would’ve wished for. Given the hype and star presence of Dwayne Johnson, the numbers could’ve been a lot more profitable.

Still, the former WWE Champion recently tweeted how his movie is turning a profit and that it is a good start compared to Marvel’s first Captain America movie. He said that these are the steps toward building a new franchise for the DC Universe.

The fans were not happy at The Rock going head over heels to justify Black Adam’s success and took to Twitter to share their views.

Some fans thought that the comparison with Captain America was unfair since that movie came out in 2011.

Fans clearly thought that a star of DJ’s status should not indulge in such acts that come off as desperate.

Fans never shy away from letting their opinions known.

Will there be a Black Adam 2?

Although it hasn’t been an overwhelming success, The Rock has expressed hopes of Black Adam’s return in future DC movies. He wants his character to go up against the likes of Henry Cavill’s Superman and others from the Justice League. The Great One sees Black Adam as the starting point of a whole new legion of superheroes that includes the Justice Society.

The box office letdown of the movie could be a factor in this as well, but with The Rock’s strong presence and fan following, it may not be that easy for the studio to do away with the character this quickly.
