WWE has had some stellar stables and tag-teams to be remembered about. There have been iconic moments born from these very teams. However, as of late, the company has massively failed to utilize tag-teams to their full potential.

WWE failing to cash in on tag-teams?

Something that fans have always adored is a good tag-team. The fast-paced action, the sudden switch, and the build-ups are always a treat to watch. Over the years, there have been some legendary tag teams. D-Generation X, The Dudley Boyz, and The Hardy Boyz are some prime examples.

Now coming to the present, things aren’t the same. For starters, the tag-team storylines have mainly featured The New Day for quite a while. They were Champions after Champions in what seemed like a never-ending loop.

One reason why the New Day was pushed so much has to do something with the merchandise sale. When the New Day debuted they weren’t fan favorites but over time, they grew to be so. They recorded huge sales for their merchandise and WWE wanted to make the best use of it.

The tag-team captured the SmackDown Tag-team Championship a record six times. The New Day also made history being the longest reigning WWE Tag-Team Champions in history.

This is a similar nod to the likes of John Cena and Roman Reigns being the face of the company instead of much deserving talents. More they hype what fans like, more sales the company records.

The Revival story

Another example worth noting would be of The Revival. The team garnered much pops from the WWE Universe. They were the first-ever triple-crown tag-team Champions. Things were sailing smoothly for the team. However, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had other plans for them. He wanted them to spot gimmicks that would make them look comedic.

Revival weren’t appreciative of the aforementioned plans. In an episode of Talk is Jericho Podcast, the team revealed how the tag-team division in the company is disrespected.

We’re still adamant that long term there’s just not enough attention paid to the tag team division. the tag team division doesn’t get respect, it doesn’t get the time that we think a lot of these teams deserve and we want to take chances on ourselves“, The Revival stated.

Making one of the hottest tag-teams on the planet, a laughing stock was certainly not a great plan. But with WWE, that tends to happen more than once. Soon, the team left, and now they are at rival promotion AEW.

Talking about the present teams; we have The New Day, Viking Riders, AOP, The Street Profits, and many more. Are they given the right chances? Not all of them at least.

AOP weren’t really made use of. Viking Riders storylines seem more cinematic than professional wrestling. WWE did try a new angle where they pitched in two top-performing Superstars together; McIntyre and Ziggler or the recent Nakamura team-up. Albeit, they are far from successful.

What should be WWE’s next move?

WWE could bring in some teams from NXT. There are many performing Superstars out there. If they don’t want to jump into that, why not try out a team from the present roster. Hopefully, we don’t see something similar to Ascension’s exit.

WWE has made a mockery of the tag-team division. They don’t seem like they’d correct it anytime soon. Tag-teams has a separate fanbase and if WWE is all about entertainment, why not make the right choices. What are your feelings on the present status of the tag-team division?
