Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have had a strange history in WWE. They have faced each other a total of five times, with Brock pinning Roman on two occasions. Reigns’ alignment with Paul Heyman throws up the question, ‘Will Brock Lesnar return to face Roman Reigns in the near future?’

What is the point of commonality between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns?

The WWE Universal Champion has never naturally risen to the top of WWE. He was thrust into the main event of WrestleMania at a time where he was not totally over with the WWE Universe. He was hated and rejected by the WWE Universe in a way that was reminiscent of the treatment John Cena received.

Brock Lesnar debuted in 2002 alongside Paul Heyman. He was the most impressive physical specimen that Vince McMahon had ever seen. Along with his impressive physique, he was also an incredible professional wrestler. He was thrust into the main event against none other than The Rock.

The difference between Roman and Lesnar is that Reigns did not have Paul Heyman. Paul Heyman is the best mouthpiece that a wrestler could get. He not only elevated Lesnar but even the Superstars who stepped foot in the ring with him. In 2020, WWE seemed to have righted that wrong.

Roman Reigns’ new special counsel might not be his mouthpiece, but we all know he’s the one pulling the string backstage. He’s the man who got Adam Pearce to book Jey Uso and Kevin Owens in the main event of SmackDown. He might not be using his skills, but he is definitely using his clout to Roman’s favour.

Will Reigns end up like a former Paul Heyman guy if he faces Brock Lesnar?

Two of Paul Heyman’s clients faced off in what was one of the best matches of the decade. CM Punk and Brock Lesnar clashed in a barnburner of a match at SummerSlam 2013, where Lesnar emerged victorious. What followed for Punk was disastrous.

People would not want to see Roman Reigns in the same situation that CM Punk fell into in 2013. It triggered a chain of events that led to his eventual release in 2013. Reigns has only just managed to get over with the WWE Universe and casting him opposite Brock Lesnar would spell doom for his excellent heel run.

At WrestleMania 34 and at SummerSlam 2017, Brock Lesnar pinned Reigns clean. The Tribal Chief is Lesnar’s most notorious opponent, but their matches have never been well received. Paul Heyman’s involvement could raise the stakes, but what’s stopping the WWE Universe from hating on another Reigns vs Lesnar match.

Roman is now a veteran of the industry, while Brock is out of contract. Reigns’ awesome heel run is leading to a massive cathartic babyface victory. The most likely opponents are Daniel Bryan, Big E and even The Rock. It would absolutely be a terrible idea to have Lesnar square up to Roman Reigns.
