The movie “Godzilla vs Kong” has a connection to WWE! The director Adam Wingard revealed some interesting details on how The Undertaker and Mick Foley influenced the movie.

The latest installment, “Godzilla vs Kong,” is the fourth film in the MonsterVerse. The film focuses on King Kong’s past and tries to stop Godzilla’s rampage on Earth.

Recently, in an interview with Film School Rejects, Wingard revealed how “the cold, reptilian” Godzilla was the “heel of the movie” opposed to the “very human-like” Kong.

“He’s (Godzilla) Undertaker, and Kong is Mankind Mick Foley,” said Wingard.

“Whenever you have that sort of opposition, the heel has to be more mysterious. He’s blowing stuff up, and there are obviously characters trying to figure out why that is. But at the end of the day, that creates this protagonist kind of thing with Kong.”

‘The Deadman‘ and Mankind had a stellar rivalry during the prime of their careers. Their gritty, violent battles helped ushering in and solidifying the hardcore school of wrestling.

Apart from this, they also established new types of matches such as ‘Hell in a Cell,’ ‘Boiler Room Brawl,’ ‘Buried Alive Matches’, etc.

Wingard also drew parallels to the ‘Rocky’ franchise, as he said Kong is an “underdog.” Wingard proclaimed, “Nobody wants to watch Rocky and have it be about Apollo Creed because he’s already ahead. What even is that movie? It’s just [Apollo] relaxing, having fun, being confident.”

The production released internationally on March 24, 2021, and in the United States on March 31, where it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, “To compare Undertaker with Mick Foley or any other WWE [Superstar], it’s like comparing Godzilla to a lizard, as far as status. Mick Foley needs the job, Undertaker doesn’t need the job. Mick Foley needs the job.”
