“My Dad Died Suddenly”: Dwayne Johnson, Who Had a Complicated Relationship With His Dad, Gets Emotional After Meeting ‘Reel Life’ Rocky Johnson

Rocky Johnson was one of the biggest motivational figures for his son, Dwayne Johnson. Even though the father-son duo had a strange relationship, The Rock later understood The Soulman’s behavior after he himself became a father.

Rocky Johnson passed away in January 2020. DJ often remembers and talks about his father on social media. The Teth Adam actor recently shared a heartwarming post after meeting Rocky Johnson on-screen.

A few hours ago, Dwayne Johnson announced the start of the filming of the NBC series Young Rock season 3. On the set, he met actor Joseph Lee Anderson, who plays ‘Soulman’ Rocky Johnson in the sitcom.

Johnson wrote, “After two years, I finally met the man who plays my dad, Rocky “Soulman” Johnson on YOUNG ROCK. @officialjosephleeanderson 💪🏾 I didn’t want our hug to end.”

Further, in the caption, ‘The Great One’ praised Anderson for his incredible work playing his father. Johnson said it is uncanny to watch the actor resemble The Soulman’s mannerisms and spirit perfectly.

The Rock felt as if he was talking to his father the whole time while hanging out on the sets. Anderson reminisced about all the memories with the WWE Hall of Famer he had while The Soulman was alive.

Moreover, DJ wrote, “My dad died suddenly on January 20th of 2020. I never got a chance to say goodbye one last time. But finally meeting Joe, I got a chance to say hello one more time. Thank you, Joe. Love you brother. DJ 🖤”

Johnson also explained, even though there was a strange relationship between them, his father loved him. Clearly, The Rock wasn’t able to hold back his feeling internally while meeting Anderson, who was in Rocky Johnson’s get-up for filming.

After The Rock didn’t make it into the NFL, he decided to follow the family legacy. When he told his parents about becoming a professional wrestler, Rocky Johnson had concerns about it. However, he agreed to train DJ, but he was tough on him.

The Soulman said on The Hannibal TV, “He said I wanna wrestle. I said okay. I said your grandfather is a wrestler, I’m a wrestler, so if I’m gonna train you, I’m gonna train you 150% and I was hard on him, but he never gave up. Then one day he was falling around and I said, ‘Look, if you sympathy go home to your mother and get it’. He said, ‘That’s where I’m going’.”

Johnson’s mom had to interfere several times with the method Rocky was training his son. There were even disputes among them in many instances. However, he didn’t change his training method.

The Soulman wanted to make his son tough in the ring and he achieved that feat. Even after an underwhelming start in WWE, The Rock became one of the greats in the world of professional wrestling.
