The Black Lives Matter movement has taken the United States by storm. Nearly every industry, every important personality, and celebrity is voicing their concerns regarding the hotbed issue. AJ Styles, however, had been notably silent about his stance on the civil unrest in America. CM Punk called Styles out for his silence, in a Tweet, that has since been deleted.

When a fan brought up AJ Styles not addressing his opinion on the civil movement, Punk responded by stating that it was always obvious what AJ Styles’ political beliefs were.

Styles, in a recent interview, addressed this matter. Styles first took a dig at Punk, stating that he didn’t respect him at all.

“I will not react at all coming from a guy like that I don’t respect anyway. It doesn’t really matter,” Styles then went on to explain why he hadn’t taken a stance on the protests, and why he didn’t address it at all. 

AJ Styles fires back at CM Punk

“Look, my job as a performer is to perform and get the mind off of all the things that have happened throughout the world,” Styles stated. This is an interesting statement by Styles, as it isn’t normally one made by people in his position.

Superstars as famous and beloved as AJ Styles often believe that they have an obligation to stand for what’s right. The stars believe that it is their duty to use the pedestal they are propped up on in a bid to bring about social change. However, AJ Styles seems to think that it is not his job to do so.

“I am not going to react to people saying ridiculous and stupid things,” Styles stated, referring to Punk’s call-out on Twitter.

Styles has chosen not to voice his opinion about the civil unrest in America. This is strange, and a departure from our idea of a conventional celebrity. He seems to think that his job is only to entertain, and not fight for justice.

Styles comes off like a true professional after these statements. But it remains to be seen how other WWE Superstars and celebrities will react to Styles’ opinion.
