Randy Orton faced Edge last night on WWE Backlash. The final results favored him as the Viper pinned the Rated-R Superstar after delivering his infamous punt kick.

Earlier this week, Randy Orton spoke with CBS Sports to address some criticism surrounding his matchup with Edge back at WrestleMania 36.

WrestleMania 36 saw many unique matches. Randy Orton and Edge squared off against each other in a Last Man Standing match.

This was Edge’s first singles match after his return. The Superstar had retired following major injuries and came back to in-ring action on this year’s Royal Rumble.

The following night he was attacked by Orton which led to the match at the grandest stage of them all. While the match was interesting, several were of the opinion that it lasted too long.

“I think if you take the Boneyard Match out of it and you take what Bray and John Cena did — both of those were fantastic — but if you don’t compare us with that, I think we stole the show.

“I did hear some bitching and moaning from the media and the fans about how long this match was and I just laugh, because I saw a couple of matches, I think even the world title match, if you include entrances and the post-match celebration, they might have gone 4 minutes,” Orton said.

The last man standing match was entertaining in its own right. The WWE title bout between Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre only lasted a few minutes as Orton mentioned. Both Superstars went on hitting their finishers back and forth.

“If that’s the kind of fan you are, then I don’t want you to be a fan of mine because you don’t appreciate what we are trying to do in telling a story,” Orton added.

Typically the last man standing match tends to be lengthy. There is only a winner when either one of the opponents is unable to get up before the 10 counts.

The Viper further added that he believes they stole the show at WrestleMania. Fans might have a bit of a hard time accepting this, given the fact that the Boneyard and Firefly Funhouse match had the fans hooked.

Now that the hyped “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” is over, the road is unclear for Edge. His feud with Orton could continue, but WWE would probably try to book him with another Superstar next.
