Sheamus spoke about the possibility of facing Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship in an interview with Sports Illustrated. The first-ever Irish-born WWE Champion was drafted to Raw, which puts him in a collision course with his real-life pal Drew McIntyre.

The Scottish Psychopath and the Celtic Warrior met in 2005 on the Irish independent scene. Both were incredibly passionate about wrestling and would critique each other’s matches. Sheamus said, “When everybody else went out clubbing, we’d stay in and critique our matches. All the years ago, we talked about bringing this aggressive style to WWE and tearing the house down.”

Sheamus was a disciple of the hard-hitting British style of wrestling, made popular by the likes of William Regal, Nigel McGuinness, and Fit Finlay. Only he could make a thrust kick in the face look like it could decapitate a man. This was until McIntyre debuted the Claymore Kick, which is the new best crowd-popping finisher.

Sheamus was drafted to Raw

Sheamus had three rivalries since returning to WWE at the end of 2019. He put away Shorty G with ease before engaging in two high-profile feuds against Jeff Hardy and Big E. ‘The Celtic Warrior’ most recently put over Big E hugely, after the former New Day member beat him in a Falls Count Anywhere Match.

Fans aren’t likely to see Sheamus be McIntyre’s next challenger, even if he walks out of Hell in a Cell as champion. He lost to former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston in what seems to be a continuation of his issues with the New Day.

The Scot has been on a roll since winning the title at WrestleMania. ‘The Celtic Warrior’said, “If it does happen, I feel sorry for Drew. He’s going to remember very, very quickly how hard I hit. I’m worried I’ll hit him so hard that he’ll just turn to dust.”

Whether Sheamus’ words are meant to be a warning or just banter, the WWE Champ has a target on his back. The odds of McIntyre finishing the year as champion are in his favor. However, Sheamus may be looking to upset him. His last WWE Title reign came in 2015 when he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract against Roman Reigns at Survivor Series.

Five years without a title must’ve made the Celtic Warrior hungry for gold. What do you make of Sheamus’ comments on the WWE champion?
