“We were driving to my haircut, and I noticed she was starting to choke from a chicken nugget from McDonald’s. I told my dad to pull over. Then I was starting to pat her back, and it got out.”
According to Jaxson, he saved his sister by recalling a CPR lesson John Cena gave on an episode of Substitutes.
“It’s called The Substitutes on Nickelodeon, and in the very first episode, John Cena was on it, and in the last part, he showed how to save someone when they’re choking,” said Jaxson.
Jaxson’s father Matt Dempsey also praised his son’s quick reaction. “He amazes us every day, you know—some of the things he says and does, and his actions. We’re simply blessed to have the child that he is.” Matt added, “Thank God Jaxson was there because, without him, I don’t know if Lelia would be here.”
Kudos to John Cena as well, for without his appearance on Substitutes, a great tragedy would’ve fallen upon the Dempsey family. God alone knows how many more undocumented instances have occurred where a celebrity like Cena must’ve inspired a child to save a life.
