Kevin Owens Breaks Silence on His Absence From WWE Live Taping

Kevin Owens speaks about the real reason behind him being unavailable at WWE Monday Night RAW tapings.

Owens, at the young age of 36, is already a veteran in this business. The Canadian has wrestled for many promotions like PWG, ROH, and CZW.

The prizefighter joined WWE’s Developmental brand NXT in 2014. In NXT, Owens made a name for himself. His rivalry with best friend Sami Zayn and his NXT title reign made a star.

In just a year, the former NXT champion made his debut on the main roster. He started his main roster career with a high profile rivalry with John Cena. In addition, he won the Intercontinental Championship in his first year on the main roster.

Owens’ first six years on the roster have been quite fruitful. He has won the United States championship 3 times, Intercontinental championship twice, and is also a former Universal Champion, having a 188 day reign.

In the past two years, Kevin Owens has been in many mid-card feuds. The prizefighter’s big rivalry in those two years came when he got into a feud with Seth Rollins. The feud started after Survivor Series after being attacked by AOP. Rollins was the reason behind this attack.

This rivalry went on till Wrestlemania 36. Kevin Owens defeated Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania on the first night of the two-day event.

COVID-19 Pandemic has created problems all over the world. Multiple talents like Robert Roode, Sami Zayn, etc. had decided to stay back when WWE started shooting behind closed doors.

WWE announcer Renee Young also recently tested positive for COVID-19. Kevins Owens was at the shows for a month or two.

A couple of weeks back, Owens pulled out of WWE tapings. The decision made by him was due to two incidents.

On 9th June, a Performance Center trainee was found COVID positive. In his personal life, Kevin Owens’ wife’s grandfather expired because of COVID-19.

The former Universal Champion confirmed the reason on WWE Bump.

“I mean I’m great, I’ve always been great, due to the circumstances that happened over the last week..the positive coronavirus test that happened in the company I  thought it was wiser for me to stay with my family that day. I told the people in charge of my decision and they [WWE] didn’t even flinch. They were like, ‘Okay.’ That’s it.”

Owens speaks about how WWE has kept its performer’s health first over anything else. The athletes that decided to stay home, their decision was respected by WWE.

“You know there’s no push-back I mean I don’t think there would be push back on anybody, but also they know once I make my mind up that’s the way it’s gonna be. They were respectful of my decision. I’m glad that I took it and I figured it was the best thing for my family.”
