Former WWE Superstar CM Punk seems to be in the doldrums now since WWE Backstage was put on hold.

This was due to the budget constraints as a result of the pandemic. Punk is now officially out of everything related to wrestling.

In a recent interview on Keepin’ It 100, Konnan discussed the reason for CM Punk not joining AEW at length.

The reason why the star didn’t side with WWE’s rival promotion was shocking.

“I don’t think that he’s damaged irreparably. I think that if he was in a really good storyline and the type of promos he can cut, people can get behind it but I do think that joining AEW is not gonna mean anything, you know,” Konan revealed.

“Timing is a lot of everything and plus they say he didn’t draw any ratings on Backstage, most people don’t watch WWE to watch Backstage but I don’t think he’d be a big guy in AEW,” says Konnan.

CM Punk tried making things big at UFC.

Unfortunately, he didn’t achieve as much success as he had hoped for. His peak still remains with WWE, and fans are dying for him to make his return.

CM Punk wanted what AEW wasn’t ready to give

The fact that AEW hasn’t picked him up yet is shocking.

CM Punk is in the perfect position to make a deal with AEW. Apparently, the talks have already taken place and fallen through.

CM Punk would undeniably make a good fit at AEW. His presence will give the promotion a major edge.

“I mean if they want to do something with him and Jericho or him and Cody, I’m sure they could, you know what I’m saying,” explains Konnan. “But like I said from what they told me he was asking for way too much and that is a company that’s willing to spend so who knows what he was asking for.”

Konnan claims that Punk was the one to pull the trigger on the deal.

He asked for an amount that even AEW wasn’t willing to pay. The figures weren’t revealed, but judging by the way it was said, we can only imagine how much it was.

We don’t know if we’ll ever see Punk in the WWE Universe again, or AEW. Punk is an unpredictable man, so you never know how or when he decides to surprise fans.
