“I’ll Always Hold Him in High Regard”- Kurt Angle Reveals the Most Important Match of His WWE Career

Exactly twenty years to this day, the life of Kurt Angle changed. From a wrestler hoping to make it big in WWE, he is now a respected member of the company’s hall of fame.

In the year 2000, Kurt Angle faced The Rock for the then WWF Championship at No Mercy. Kurt Angle won that No DQ match and also the WWF championship, thanks to heavy interference from Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Rikishi.

That day acted as a trigger for the illustrious career he had ahead. It established him as a main eventer and world champion just 11 months after joining the company.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani remebered watching this match and mentioned it in a tweet. Kurt Angle replied to Hewani’s tweet, talking about the match and thanking The Rock for helping him in his earlier days.

The man that put Kurt Angle over that night also replied to this tweet. Johnson claimed that Angle was one of the nicest men in the business, a rare quality in the pro wrestling industry.

Kurt Angle feels he could have won the world title one more time

Kurt Angle returned to the WWE in 2017 to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame. He was announced as the Raw General Manager on Monday Night Raw the night after.

However, Angle was very disappointed with his booking after his return. Here is what he told Stone Cold on the WWE Network show: Broken Skull sessions.

“I wanted to do what Goldberg did. Have a quick title run, main event – we’re gone. That wasn’t in the plans because whenever I did wrestle, I was getting my ass beat. Or it was a tag match with Ronda. It was to promote her, it wasn’t me. It was me, Triple H and Stephanie [McMahon] highlighting this woman.

“I understand that [I’m not the commodity I once was], but I also understand a lot of wrestlers come back that aren’t a commodity anymore. Someone like Goldberg did win the title. Don’t get me wrong, I know why and I know that’s the best position for him, but I just thought I would be treated a little differently. It’s OK, I’m just happy I was able to do it.”

According to various rumors, WWE offered numerous contracts to Angle, which he squarely refused. In fact, Angle is invested in his new business company, Physically Fit Nutrition, and isn’t planning to enter the ring.
