Akin to star kids, Charlotte Flair was exposed to glitz and glamour from a tender age, courtesy of her legendary father Ric Flair. Much before she made a name for herself, Charlotte was spotted at the ringside on a number of occasions, cheering her old man.

While it may seem like a natural progression for Charlotte to walk into her father’s shoes and sign with the WWE, the story isn’t entirely true. In a recent episode of Biography: WWE Legends, the 36-year-old superstar detailed her journey.

Standing at 5 feet and 10 inches, Charlotte Flair clearly stands head and shoulders (literally) above most female wrestlers currently. While her tall frame helped her ace volleyball in school and college, it was something else that wrecked her game.

The culprits, according to the 14x women’s world champion, were her parents.

State of her family made Charlotte Flair nervous

“There was so much mental stuff going on at home, I remember that being frustrating,” the reigning women’s champion said about her parents’ tumultuous marriage. Charlotte also opened up on the “lack of guidance and direction” as Ric and his second wife feuded between themselves before calling it quits.

The couple were married for over two decades, the longest among Flair’s five marriages.

Charlotte said the fighting was so severe that it left her morale down and affected her game, something she excelled in for a long time. “Anytime the coach would throw me in the game, I would be so nervous, I regressed as a player,” she said.

However, ‘The Queen’ also added that despite their own differences, her parents played the perfect part in her and Reid, her late brother’s, life. “Even though I knew things weren’t perfect in my mom and dad’s marriage growing up, they still played the perfect part for Reid and I,” Charlotte said.

According to reports, the divorce itself was ugly and concluded with a load of dirty laundry being aired. That, however, didn’t stop Charlotte from staying in her dad’s corner or attending his fifth marriage in 2018.

One can expect the legend to be in her corner when she faces the Australian juggernaut Rhea Ripley and defend her reign at WrestleMania, a few days from now.

His daughter is 10 times better than him, reckons Ric Flair

Regarded as one of the best to ever lace a pair of wrestling boots, Ric Flair has been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice. His record 16x world championship wins still stand today.

However, in 2021, Flair said his daughter was 10 times better that what he was at the ring. The Nature Boy made the claim during an exclusive chat with Wrestling Inc.

Earlier in January, he also had a word of advice for Rhea Ripley after she chose his daughter as her opponent. “To Be The Woman, You Have To Beat THE WOMAN! Wooooo!” Flair wrote while tweeting a group selfie of himself, Charlotte and Rhea Ripley.

If anything at all, her latest revelation proves Charlotte’s mental toughness. From battling frustration and lack of direction in life, the 36-year-old now boasts of a resume only a very few possess. However, she is likely to face the biggest threat of her life in form of an in-form rebranded Rhea Ripley.
