When Reid Flair passed away, a dark day dawned upon Ric Flair. No matter how hard he tries or how distracted he is, there is nothing that can take away the pain of losing his son.

It’s not a story that Ric Flair tells every day, but when he does recall every moment that led to the dreadful moment, everyone becomes teary-eyed. Recently, The Nature Boy recalled those moments during a conversation with Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor on The Pivot Podcast.

When he revealed what happened, everyone could wonder only one thing – what if he hadn’t let Reid out of his sight?

“He was on my watch. Does that make sense? I just flew him back from Japan because he wanted to go to WrestleMania and he was wrestling in Japan. I finally thought I found a place where he couldn’t get into trouble, right? I told him when I left, I said, ‘they put Paul McCartney in jail here.”

“Okay, buddy? You can’t scr*w around in Japan’. The laws are much stricter than here. But somehow, he came home, and he was staying with his mom and he kept calling me, ‘dad please come, please come get me. I can’t take it over here’. So, I went and got him, brought him with me, bought him a couple of Nike tennis shoes, and left him out of my sight for about an hour and a half.”

By the time Ric Flair reunited with his son again, he was on the floor. The Nature Boy put him to bed, considering he had seen him like that multiple times. The next day, Reid Flair had turned purple, and after a while, Flair got the most devastating news any parent could receive – his son was no more.

Ric Flair relives the moment every day

This is the kind of news no one wishes on their enemies. The pain burns through like a poison-coated knife, and the WWE Hall of Famer has to live through it every day.

“For five years, I drank from 10 in the morning until 2 a.m. I quit working out, everything… I mean, I don’t think it was four years, but yeah. I just, I couldn’t shake it, I just couldn’t live with myself, I just kept wondering. Every day I wake up and it’s still right there, what happened. Cause he and I were so close.”
