Mark Henry Reveals Lying To WWE To Get Daniel Bryan Hired

Mark Jerrold Henry is a former American powerlifter, Olympic weightlifter, strongman, and professional wrestler. He is currently signed to WWE under the Legends contract, where he also works as a backstage producer. Needless to say, Henry has been a powerful voice in WWE, and Vince McMahon and Co. pay great heed to his advice. Interestingly, one of his suggestions became the saving grace for fan-favorite Daniel Bryan.

On Apr 6, 2021, in an episode of BT Sport ‘The Run-In’, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry appeared to promote WrestleMania 37. The discussion shifted to Daniel Bryan and Henry’s unlikely relation with him.

The student of ‘Mr. WrestleMania‘ Shawn Michaels, Bryan was an inconceivable hiring for WWE in 2010. Henry revealed he had a major part to play in getting Bryan a look, including exaggerating a few details about Bryan’s credentials. Mark said,

“I had to lie to everybody’s face to get Daniel Bryan looked at. They wanted guys who were big and huge. And I said ‘this guy is like 6’1, 200 lbs. He can get it done. Then he got there and they were like ‘that guy’s not 6’1!’ And I said that he must’ve had lifts in his shoes. But I knew he was really good,”

Ever since Daniel Bryan set foot in WWE, he has been one of the most loved wrestlers in WWE history. The fans love him not just for his in-ring capabilities but also for his overall personality. In fact, Bryan’s yes chants have transcended WWE boundaries to become a cultural phenomenon.

“Sometimes when you’re really good it don’t matter what your size is. And he was one of those guys that I just knew. I was like ‘man this guy is a really really excellent wrestler, excellent psychologist.’ He was already wrestling. They didn’t have to show him how to do anything, they didn’t have to wait a long time. And he was able to get it done.”

Now, at WrestleMania 37, Daniel Bryan is all set to main event the biggest night of all in a triple threat match against ‘The Big Dog‘ Roman Reigns and ‘The Rated-R Superstar‘ Edge.

It has been one heck of a ride for Bryan, and it all might not have been possible without Mark Henry’s help.
