Massive Update on Cody Rhodes Signing With WWE

The former AEW star Cody Rhodes was rumored to make a return to the WWE. However, it seems that one should not keep their hopes high.

Last month, ‘Dashing’ Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes announced their departure from the AEW promotion. The news came as a shock to the wrestling world as Cody served as Executive Vice President for the AEW. Since his exit, Cody was heavily linked to the interest of WWE; he was likely to be brought back as Stardust.

On this latest episode of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan made to the wrestling industry a huge announcement. He announced that he had purchased Ring of Honor (ROH) promotion.

Cody Rhodes’ plan with the WWE has fallen through

The ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes is yet to return to the WWE. After Tony Khan took over the ROH, it has been speculated that there has been a disturbance in Cody’s deal with the WWE.

In the words of Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net, “I was told that discussions had been ongoing between Cody and WWE, but I was told those conversations have since fizzled out.” They also reported that Cody Rhodes could return to AEW, perhaps in a new role in Tony Khan’s Ring of Honor.

Furthermore, the departures of Cody and Brandi Rhodes were quoted as “very much real life, and was not a work.” At this moment, nothing is confirmed yet, and the former AEW Star remains a free agent.

During his promo on AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan stated that he purchased ROH and is the new owner of Ring of Honor. 

Where will the former AEW star go?

Even if Tony Khan owns the ROH, he will try to bring back Cody to operate the wrestling promotion. Meanwhile, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated that the plans for Cody Rhodes to return to WWE were still on track. Dave mentioned, “Vince McMahon didn’t think they fizzled as of two days ago.” 

It appears that Dashing Rhodes is currently in very high demand in the wrestling market. Even on WWE programming, it was hinted how Cody possibly return to the company. However, in a turn of events, sources point at Cody Rhodes leading a new role in ROH.
