Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson formally left the wrestling business in 2004. Since then, he has become a Hollywood megastar, but he never forgot his roots which made him who he is.

On that note, Johnson recently recalled one of his iconic rivalries. He retweeted a post on Twitter that highlighted one of his many legendary moments with fellow Attitude Era icon, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.

The post, which was a still picture, was a testament to one of the many times The Rock and Austin shared a beer following a segment. Rock also paid homage to the iconic Attitude Era, where the difference between reel and reality was blurred.

Johnson recalled, “Many of you know what’s about to happen in roughly 3 seconds after this beer smash… And Stone Cold Steve Austin, and I did this in a different city EVERY NIGHT. Much less was scripted back then, and these were BRILLIANT times!!! What an era as all things ebb and flow in WWE.”

This level of creative independence is not granted in the PG Era, but the Attitude Era was very different. The matches and the storylines were also more violent and mature compared to the ‘safe’ nature of today.

Be it Johnson or Austin or Triple H, their nonchalant, smug attitude put them on the pedestal. The Superstars defined WWE back then and set the stage for the Superstars of today.

Why did The Rock oversell during the Attitude Era?

Overselling is one of the many reasons that The Rock became the “most electrifying wrestler” in the business. This aspect not only made the match highly entertaining but also projected the Superstar in a grand light.
