Pat McAfee Addresses Madison Square Garden as WWE Remembers 9/11 Heroes

WWE hosted a ‘Super SmackDown’ event tonight from the Madison Square Garden arena where we witnessed the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Edge, Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair appear.

SmackDown honors the heroes of 9/11

It was an emotional night for the company because the event took place on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. WWE suitably released a documentary called “Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11” which reflects on the first SmackDown event just 2 days after the inhuman incident.

Before tonight’s ‘Super SmackDown’, Chief Brand Officer of WWE, Stephanie McMahon, and WWE superstar, Zelina Vega took part in the special showing of the documentary.

SmackDown color commentator Pat McAfee addressed the crowd inside the Madison Square Garden and delivered an emotional brief speech about the attack.

McAfee said that some cowardly criminals attacked The World Trade center, but after 20 years they had no idea that the WWE Universe would be back in the biggest arena and with the biggest SmackDown event in last 10 years.

“20 years ago some a**holes wanted to take away our joy, our happiness, & our freedom.. They had NO IDEA 20 years later we would be back in the MOST iconic arena on Earth for an INCREDIBLE #SMACKDOWNMcAfee wrote.

Vince McMahon and the rest of the WWE came together to show their solidarity after such a devastating attack.

Just two days after the attacks, WWE held the biggest gathering when the crowd and the rest of the roster appeared on an episode of SmackDown. The crowd was emotionally chanting “U-S-A! U-S-A!”, as the wrestlers and Vince McMahon made their way out.

It was an emotional night for everyone inside the arena to see the wrestlers paying tribute to those who lost their lives. Vince McMahon addressed the crowd, and thanked them and talked about living the ‘American Dream’.

“America’s heart has been wounded but her spirit shines as a beacon of freedom, that will never be extinguished.” McMahon said. Twenty years later, SmackDown presented one of their biggest shows from the most iconic arena in the world.
