Roman Reigns came back from a four-month-long hiatus and won the WWE Universal Title from The Fiend at PayBack 2020 within a week. As the top heel, with Paul Heyman in his corner, Reigns is establishing himself as the “Top Guy.” In a recent interview, Reigns spoke about what it takes to be “The Top Guy” and the current locker room scenario of WWE.

On the latest edition of After the Bell podcast, Corey Graves had the “Tribal Chief” as his guest. Reigns revealed that a plethora of guys wanted to reach the top but fell short due to inaction. As per him, they did not put in the requisite work.

“Everybody wants that push. Everybody, ‘Man! If they just push me! Why am I not here? But when the work comes they start b***hing and moaning about it. They start complaining. You say you want to be the guy but you don’t want to work on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. You don’t want to work on a Saturday.”

He further elucidated that at one point, the job becomes a lifestyle, “You become it. You are it. It’s not something you can put aside for a while and be like, ‘I want to be normal for a little bit.'”

Roman Reigns says the current locker room is ‘special’

Reigns discussed how most people give in to lethargy and ‘settle’. The urge to be on top fades away with time.

“I’ve seen some of the boys go from, ‘Man, I want to be pushed, I want to be the guy, I want to have the responsibility in the locker room,’ to, ‘I think I kind of like it right here, doing what I’m doing, be on the TV this one week, making a good living, be able to be with my family the rest of the week.’ Not everybody.”

However, Roman is happy with the current locker room. He revealed the locker room is full of ambitious, hungry performers who are willing to do anything to be on top.

“That’s what makes our locker room special. We have a lot of hungry performers. But it’s very rare for someone to taste that idea of doing everything, being on every single show, being dead tired all the time, and enjoying it. Being willing to do it year in and year out. It’s one thing to do it a year or two, but when you’ve done it for six or seven, that’s when you know you are it.”

As the top heel of the company, Roman Reigns will defend his Universal title against his cousin Jey Uso at the upcoming Clash of Champions 2020. Hopefully, the two Anoa’i family members will give us a memorable match at the pay-per-view.
