Dwayne Johnson’s rivalry with Stone Cold Steve Austin was arguably the most iconic feud in WWE. However, while Stone Cold went for neck surgery, The Rock feuded with Triple H for the entire year of 2000. They had some great promos and exceptional matches during their rivalry as well.

The Rock and Austin brought the best out of each other during their matches. Moreover, Triple H and Johnson had a different story, as they wanted to show each other who was the number 1 guy in WWE at the time. However, both the superstars have one regret regarding their rivalry.

Recently, The EVP of Talent Relations for WWE Triple H appeared on IMPAULSIVE podcast. He told Logan Paul a regret he and Dwayne Johnson have about not having a one-on-one match at WrestleMania.

Hunter said, “My only regret with the whole thing with The Rock is, in 2000 we were poised to have a match at WrestleMania one-one-one. I think that would have been an epic thing for both of us in that moment, the timing of Taker’s return and Austin’s return.”

He further added, “ Unfortunately I always feel it’s the one thing, like we got to this unbelievably heated long-term rivalry and never got yo pay it off at the biggest platform as possible.

At the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin was in the process of returning to in-ring action. As a result, WWE turned The Game and The Rock’s one-on-one match into Fatal-Four Way with Mick Foley and The Big Show being a part of it. They had their supposedly planned WrestleMania Ironman match later at Judgement Day in the same year.

WWE was planning a WrestleMania match between Dwayne Johnson and Triple H later

Dwayne Johnson left WWE in 2004 after his contract expired. He became a full-time actor in Hollywood after that. However, he started appearing on WWE TV in 2011 during his feud with John Cena and had two WrestleMania matches with The Cenation Leader in 2011 and 2012.

After WrestleMania 29, The Rock made sporadic appearances on RAW and SmackDown. Similarly, The Great One appeared on the 15th Anniversary episode of SmackDown in 2014. As per Triple H, WWE poised their match at the next WrestleMania again with a backstage segment.

On that match they never got to have, The Cerebral Assassin said, “I think Rock feels that way too, is why a couple of years ago we did a backstage little thing. That was literally him coming to me and saying, ‘Dude I want to do a match next year. I’ll want to do it with you like let us have that WrestleMania match that we never got to have’. I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m in’.”
