“I Was Just Defeated”- Former WWE Superstar Reveals How Vince McMahon Buried his Character
In a recent interview on The Ryback Show, former WWE Superstar Rusev revealed some shocking information about how he was being treated by WWE Writers and Vince McMahon during his time there.
The ‘Rusev Day’ gimmick was working like a charm and fans had been chanting it everywhere. Rusev finally felt like he fitted in and that he had a good thing going. This was the first time he had really connected with the audience.

Unfortunately, Vince McMahon felt otherwise. The boss felt that the crowd was mocking him and wanted to put an end to it immediately.
“The first meeting it was, ‘they’re f*cking with you, they don’t mean what they’re saying.’ I respect and I listen because I always want to listen from Vince. He had everybody on his side,” says Rusev. “In my mind, I knew it wasn’t true. They started putting my segments early so the ‘Rusev Day’ chants would go away.”
Rusev lost his temper with a writer
The former United States Champion reveals how he was kept in the waiting list for weeks, all the while hearing his name being chanted outside. He finally lost his temper.
“I was not even supposed to be on WrestleMania, the year I lost to Jinder. I was not on TV for three weeks. I’m sitting backstage all night and listening to people chant ‘Rusev Day.’ I went to one of the writers and I’m like, ‘This is not right.’ This is the first time I yelled at a writer, and I felt bad,” admits Rusev.

“He was like, ‘We don’t know what to do.’ What do you mean you don’t know what to do? Just listen. They’ll tell you what to do. They’re shoving me down and I don’t understand why. What am I fighting for? I did everything, right? I went to acting classes, I started working on my body, I did all the extra stuff, I was just defeated,” reveals Rusev.
The fans’ chants were deliberately being suppressed

Rusev soon realized that the pushing down was unnecessary and he soon noticed something was off.
“When Vince said the second time, ‘They’re fucking with you,’ I said, ‘Vince, we have sold out all of our merchandise.’ ‘What do you mean?’ ‘The shirt is sold out.’ ‘Well, maybe they didn’t make enough.’ ‘They didn’t make enough shirts, that’s why it’s sold out? Not because we’re doing good? Really?’ Then they didn’t know what to do, good guy or bad guy, come on, man.”

“What am I doing, why am I giving everything I had? I understand it’s my dream, but gosh darn. Thank God I did good enough with my investments, I don’t need to work there at all. My wife works there, she is happy, good for her, I am done.”
The question to ask here is- did WWE deliberately bury Rusev? His character potential was on the same lines as Kurt Angle’s “You Suck” chants, but Vince McMahon and the writers saw no potential in it.

Having no regrets, Rusev is glad to have left WWE. He still feels that he was criminally pushed down and that Vince McMahon played a dirty game. Rusev may have the last laugh yet if he decides to take the ‘Rusev Day’ chants to another promotion.
