“That Was Disheartening To Me”- Renee Young Reveals Her Frustration With WWE Backstage

Renee Young left WWE a while ago. With 8 years of experience, Renee surely has some precious insider scoops. This is the primary reason she started “Backstage.” She wanted to let the fans inside the shows. In a recent podcast with Sports Illustrated, Renee revealed her expectations about Backstage.

Renee Young talks about failed ambitions

During her time with WWE, Renee Worked as a host on “WWE Backstage.” The synopsis of the show said that it would talk about “sensitive topics.” With the return of CM Punk, fans thought that the claim was true.

However, Renee revealed how that was not the case. The show avoided topics like Superstar releases or drug test failures. Like every WWE backstage show, Renee and the team discussed what was on-screen.

“The show still could have been more than it was. To me, it started to feel like another WWE kick-off show, and that’s not what the heart of the project started out as. That was disheartening to me. Going to work for FOX, I was like, ‘Hell yeah, now we can get out from under the thumb.’

She continued, “You hear the stories about being overproduced (in WWE). To get away from that and be under the FOX umbrella, I was like, ‘We can finally do some stuff.’ No, we can’t. Our hands are still tied.

She revealed the real reason that pushed her to depart from WWE. Turns out, it was the cancellation of “Backstage.” “It sucks that Backstage got canceled, I think it was starting to get into its groove.”

When CM Punk joined Backstage, people expected some hard-hitting truths. However, they were disappointed.

“He didn’t do anything all that controversial to upset people. At first, it was like, ‘Eh, what’s he going to say?’ Once he was on, it’s not like he just wanted to shit on everything, what’s the point of that? People expect that to a certain degree.”

Renee is still under a Fox contract. She’s currently spending some time with her family and husband AEW Champion Jon Moxley.
