Drew McIntyre has been WWE’s MVP during the pandemic era of wrestling. Since winning the WWE Title at WrestleMania, he has been the face of WWE, putting on strong performances on PPV and stealing the show on Monday Night Raw. McIntyre has only missed one PPV appearance, at Payback. Now, he might be on the verge of missing out on Survivor Series.

It is unusual for a big name like Drew McIntyre to miss out on a major PPV

The Scottish Psychopath is a giant name in WWE and there has to be some ulterior motive to him missing out on Survivor Series. Since Roman Reigns returned and won the WWE Universal Championship, his clash with Drew McIntyre became one of the most eagerly anticipated matches of the year.

Unfortunately, McIntyre dropped the title to Randy Orton at Hell in a Cell. Orton vs Reigns has the potential to be a show-stealer, but it could not raise the interest levels for the PPV, like McIntyre vs Reigns would have.

McIntyre was booked to be an absolute monster, a superhero who slayed WWE’s supervillain Brock Lesnar. He defeated WWE’s biggest heels in Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley and, of course, Randy Orton on two separate occasions.

Why would WWE not book McIntyre for Survivor Series?

The main reason WWE have not yet booked McIntyre for the event could be to protect Randy Orton. Orton’s victory against Drew was extremely anticlimactic and even upset certain wrestlers backstage.

Drew was a terrific champ, and maybe Orton needs a strong performance against Reigns to establish himself as a worthy champion at the age of 40.

Another reason WWE would not book McIntyre for Survivor Series could be because they have something bigger in place for him post the PPV. McIntyre and Sheamus have been teasing a rivalry with their friendly segments backstage. These segments are doing the perfect job of setting Sheamus up to turn on McIntyre, starting what could be a very hard-hitting rivalry.

In 2018, Daniel Bryan turned heel to beat AJ Styles for the WWE Championship. He went on to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, while Styles missed his first ever PPV. After Survivor Series, Styles and Bryan had a pair of instant classics which wowed the WWE Universe. WWE might have a similar plan in place for Drew McIntyre.

The final reason McIntyre is not booked for Survivor Series is because there is going to be a title change. The Miz has vowed to cash in his contract against Randy Orton for the second time in his career. The cash-in could replicate the iconic moment of 2010, and give Miz his first WWE Championship in nearly 10 years.

WWE Title match confirmed for next week

However, all of these speculations could be proven wrong if McIntyre is able to beat Randy Orton for the WWE Title next week on Raw. Adam Pearce confirmed the match before the main event of Raw. If Drew beats Randy, he books his ticket to Survivor Series.
