Brock Lesnar is not the kind of guy who likes to make friends with everyone he meets. He shares close friendships with very few in WWE and one of his close friends is Goldberg. Although they had been fierce rivals in the ring, they got along quite well off the ring.

In his autobiography, Death Clutch, The Beast talked about his last match before he left the WWE in 2004. In case you don’t know, Lesnar left WWE in 2004 to pursue his career in football. Additionally, his last match was set against Goldberg at WrestleMania XX.

Talking about that match, Lesnar stated, “It’s fitting that my last match in WWE was against Bill Goldberg, and the referee was Steve Austin, because Bill and Steve are two guys I really like. It’s a shame that I didn’t get to know either one of them very well until after we all got out of the business.”

However, while Lesnar and Goldberg were initially really liked by the fans, eventually the WWE fans were unhappy with them for leaving the company.

Moreover, he stated, “Bill wasn’t Vince’s guy. To Vince, Bill was a WCW creation, a carpetbagger. So Bill got to spear me and beat me at WrestleMania. But no one in the Garden cared. They were too busy booing us both out of the building because they knew we were leaving.”

The friendship between the two strengthened outside the ring. Additionally, Lesnar believes it was preferable since they both understood that they could form a friendship. After leaving the company, they discovered that they had a lot in common.

Moreover, he added, “Bill is a straight-up guy who got in to get out. I respect that. He wants to do a job he enjoys. You know that Bill could be sitting in the TNA locker room right now, milking every paycheck he can get out of them just like the other so-called “legends.” But that’s not Bill.”—Bill was the ringside commentator for my first MMA fight, and we’ve been good friends ever since.”

Notably, Goldberg had not been a part of the WWE since he quit following Wrestlemania 20 in 2004. However, Lesnar did make a return on the Raw following Wrestlemania 28. Since his return in 2012, he had been one of the top wrestlers in the ring.
