Stone Cold Steve Austin served as the poster boy for WWE from 1997 till the day he retired. His instant rise to the top of WWE is an accomplishment not many have achieved.

Due to his Superstar profile, Austin is still regarded as a celebrity in America. This transformed into appearances on talk shows like the Dan Patrick Show.

In the advertisement, Austin is seen studying from a pair of textbooks, as Dan walks in. Dan questions Austin about his activity, to which Austin retorts that he’s studying, but he’s fading pretty fast.

To give him a jolt, Patrick smashes Austin on the back with a steel chair. The sound of the impact sends shivers down the spines of viewers. Austin asked for another shot, and Dan obliged.

Fifteen years after the advertisement, Austin joined Dan on his show to talk about how they executed the iconic advertisement. Patrick first confirmed whether there was any bad blood between Austin and him. Once Austin reassured the host of the show that there was no bad blood, they went on to talk about how Austin taught him to execute a proper folding chair attack.

Patrick also revealed that it was Stone Cold’s idea to have him hit twice with the chair.

“It’ll be funnier if I ask him to hit me again,” was Steve Austin’s suggestion to the ESPN folks shooting the video. “I ran it by him and it maybe kind of offended him a little bit, and then all of a sudden when it became his idea he was cool with it,” said Austin.

Dan complimented Austin’s ability to take that chair shot and act as if it didn’t even scratch him.

“I think that really showed my range as an actor,” said Austin.

Austin was wearing some protective equipment to save him from the full brunt of the chair shot, but there is no protection when you’re in the ring.

Austin once again demonstrated how to execute the perfect folded chair shot. He demonstrated it on one of Patrick’s crew members who procured a steel chair.

Of course, Austin did not actually smack him with the chair, but demonstrated how painful it is to experience it. Austin ended the segment appropriately, informing kids not to try this at home, and that’s the bottom line, ’cause Stone Cold said so.
