When Charlotte Flair first came into the WWE, her biggest challenges were proving the critics wrong, and the fact that her name didn’t get a WWE contract. It’s safe to say that she proved everyone wrong with all she has done since her debut in NXT.

While we might know all about her life today, many fans aren’t aware of the story of how she got the name ‘Charlotte.’

So, where did Charlotte come from? Well, there’s an interesting story behind it. In an interview with Talk Is Jericho, Flair talked about how she got her name, and that she pitched ten names before settling on what we all call her today.

“I gave them ten names. I gave them ‘Miss Elizabeth,’ but not thinking of Miss Elizabeth.” Charlotte joked, “they probably were like, ‘oh my God! This idiot!'”

She then told Chris Jericho how she put down a variety of different names. From Elizabeth Reid to Ella to Eliza and even Charlotte. Ashley put down Charlotte because her hometown is Charlotte in North Carolina, and she grew up there as well. So it seemed fitting to put the name of her city in the list of names as well.

“I don’t think they thought I was going to be good or go anywhere. I don’t know because here, as I said, I walked in [as] Ric Flair’s daughter who never wanted to be in the business before, and here I am. [I] never worked [and] knew nothing. They probably thought, ‘well, this is funny. Let’s name her Charlotte. No effort.”

What is Charlotte Flair’s real name?

Charlotte Flair’s real name happens to be Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr. She got her middle name from her mother. When Charlotte debuted in WWE as just Charlotte, it confused people because the name ‘Flair’ held a lot of weight with the fans.

She was renamed Charlotte Flair around Hell In A Cell 2016 when she would face off with Sasha Banks in the first-ever women’s cell match.

“I think it was the company’s way of saying she can do it and she can own it. And that’s pretty cool. It’s weird to have two names now. It makes for a longer [autograph] signing. My hand’s cramping more.”

She added that it was cool how WWE put so much thought into her character growth, and she was grateful for it.

“I think it was cool the company was putting that much thought into my growth and my character. It does make a difference.”

The most considerable criticism The Queen faced was that she got to wherever she is today because of the Flair family name. But it doesn’t matter what the critics say because Flair has grown beyond just her family name and has established herself as one of the greatest of all time.
