Kurt Angle, one of WWE’s most popular former Superstars, famously quit the company in 2006. This occurred following his addiction to prescription medication which he was consuming due to his neck injuries.

Now, Angle returned to the company in 2017. By this time, WWE had become a completely different place.

WWE preferred showcasing elaborate storylines instead of raw and pure talent. Nevertheless, upon returning, Angle took his rightful position in the WWE Hall of Fame along with becoming the Monday Night Raw general manager. However, this is not what he had in his mind when he returned.

On Stone Cold Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Sessions, Angle revealed what he actually wanted from the company.

“I wanted to do what Goldberg did. Have a quick title run, main event – we’re gone. That wasn’t in the plans because whenever I did wrestle, I was getting my a** beat. Or, it was a tag match with Ronda Rousey. It was to promote her, It wasn’t me. It was me, Triple H, and Stephanie [McMahon] highlighting this woman.”

Kurt Angle did not appreciate WWE’s treatment towards him

Kurt Angle believes that even if WWE did not consider him to be an asset, the company should have treated him better. Let’s not forget that Angle is a six time World Champion along with being an Olympic gold medalist. Hence, the fact that Vince McMahon and company used Goldberg’s images for world title pictures wasn’t quite acceptable to him.

“I understand that [I’m not the commodity I once was], but I also understand a lot of wrestlers come back that aren’t a commodity anymore. Someone like Goldberg did win the title.”

However, Kurt Angle is a legend and has let bygones be bygones. Of course, he still wishes that the company had shown more trust in him.

“Don’t get me wrong, I know why and I know that’s the best position for him, but I just thought I would be treated a little differently. It’s OK, I’m just happy I was able to do it.”
