“Why the Balls?”: Dwayne Johnson Was Forced to Commit a Gross Act During the Filming of Hercules

Dwayne Johnson is currently one of the highest-paid Hollywood Stars of all time. A household name currently, Johnson did not even expect to be so a few decades earlier. Prior to Hollywood, and wrestling, Dwayne Johnson used to be a football player. However, after suffering failure in that career path, he chose an alternative.
Johnson’s failure in football came as a blessing, as it compelled him to switch career. Johnson would follow his family’s tradition and become a professional wrestler. However, after a few years, he would again switch careers and join Hollywood as an actor.

Being one of the highest-paid workers in the industry, compels Johnson to work hard as well. Over the years, Johnson has shown commitment toward making quality films. His hard work and determination are often visible in his films, and their outcome.
For Hercules (2014), Johnson took it up a notch higher when he transformed his physique into a massive body. Currently at 50-years-old, The Rock has one of the most fit and massive physique in the industry.
And it was during Hercules that he took it up to another level. The 2014 film, based on the Greek Demo-god, also saw Johnson make another commitment and wear a wig made of Yak pubic hair.
During an interview with Conan O’Brien, Johnson explains the full incident. He reveals that the hair on his face was made out of yak hair. And, when he asked his makeup artist about, the artist gave him a shocker.
Johnson said, “I had a great makeup artist, his name was Mateo. Again three and a half hours everyday. I said Mateo, ‘what is this?’ He goes, ‘Oh its Yak hair. He goes from a Yak.”
However, when Johnson asked which part of a yak it came from, he was told it was the pubic hair. The Brahma Bull of WWE was shocked to his core, and when he asked the reason for it, it was explained that the yak pubic hair was soft.
Such was Johnson was commitment to this film that he wore yak pubic hair on his face and shot the whole film.

Hercules came out in 2014, and was instantly loved by the fans. It portrayed the character range Johnson was willing to play and commit himself to.

However, during the same aforementioned video, Dwayne Johnson revealed the pain-stricken process that he had to go through every day before shooting began.

He said,“we had great Italian designers, wig makers, beard makers, makeup, scars, three and a half hours everyday. Cause the idea was to transform me into what you see. And, so the wig makers were incredible, all Oscar nominated, Oscar winners.”

Johnson further said that every inch of hair on his face that was put on was put piece by piece. This showed the attention to detail and dedication the artist had. So, everyday Johnson dedicated three and a half hours prior to beginning his shooting. The 50-year-old had a completely different look in the film, and the fans loved it.
