Smackdown has been the better of the two WWE flagship shows in the past few weeks. The blue brand will look to keep its momentum going as it has announced some exciting segments for the upcoming episode.

The biggest story heading into this week’s episode is obviously the controversial hit and run storyline of Jeff Hardy. WWE decided to tread in some risky waters when it involved the ghosts of Hardy’s real life in its programming. Notably, Hardy has had a history of substance abuse.

Last week, Hardy was arrested on television for allegedly running over Elias with his car while being drunk. While it was teased that he was framed by the Celtic warrior Sheamus, it remains to be seen what the direction of the storyline is. In addition, it was confirmed that AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan will face off in the finals of the Intercontinental Championship tournament.

Jeff Hardy explains his side of the story, Styles-Bryan face off on WWE Smackdown

In what is expected to be another controversial yet intriguing segment, Jeff Hardy will explain his side of the story. If WWE decides to go with some more realism, Hardy might talk about his past and how he fought back to recover.

This might lead to one of the bloodiest feuds in recent memory between him and Sheamus. WWE has also announced that AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan will be face to face before their big match. There will certainly be some good promo work to build up towards the highly awaited match.

Surprisingly, one of the less talked about storylines had been around the top belt on Smackdown – the Universal championship. That’s precisely because WWE has embroiled Braun Strawman in a feud with the tag team of The Miz and James Morrison instead of giving him a serious rivalry to work with.

In fact, Braun wasn’t even featured on the last episode of Smackdown. However, he will be addressing his handicap match against the evil duo at Backlash this week on Friday.

Lastly, Alexa Bliss and Nicky Cross will be defending their tag team championships against Bayley and Sasha Banks. After Banks scored a singles victory against Bliss last week, they were back in title contention.

Keeping the repetitiveness of the angle aside, let’s hope that there’s some payoff in this match and WWE is building towards some major angle. Otherwise, this match really does nothing for the two teams at this point. Which segment are you most excited for?
