WWE Champion Drew McIntyre Reveals The Origin Of His Finishing Maneuver “Claymore”

2020 has been a glorious year for Drew McIntyre. Not only did he win the Royal Rumble, but also conquered Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36.

McIntyre’s booking, especially since late 2019, has been on point. The man did not lose a match by pinfall for almost a year! Among this, he has also defended his WWE Championship against the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, and AJ Styles. A major component of his winning ways is his finisher – the Claymore.

Drew McIntyre reveals how the Claymore was invented

The WWE Champion was the recent guest on Stone Cold’s Broken Skull Sessions, where he talked on a variety of topics. He also discussed how he invented the ‘Claymore’. He said, “It was brought to me because of 3MB. It was the greatest thing 3MB ever gave me (laughs).”

The Scottish Superstar‘ detailed how his unique finisher became a reality. He revealed it started off as an accident and eventually became his finisher. “If you’d remember the beginning of 3MB, we had this super tight leather pants the office made. I certainly didn’t have them commissioned.

McIntyre revealed he went for a boot, but the pants were so tight that he had to change mid-move. He didn’t want to have an embarrassing moment by splitting pants. He details it was this quick thinking that led to his first Claymore. Sadly for Drew, he literally got knocked out after hitting that.

“So I kicked up the other leg, knocked out my opponent, and knocked myself out at the same time,” said McIntyre. “Got to the back and someone pulled me aside and said, ‘if you can figure out how to do that move without killing yourself, you got something cool there.'”

I worked on it, worked on it, and then I started using it as part of 3MB just as my big maneuver I would use, but it was created because of those tight leather pants.”

After McIntyre revealed this funny story of how he got the Claymore. Austin, too, revealed that Michael ‘PS’ Hayes was the one who introduced him to the Stunner. Well, on hearing McIntyre’s story, it’s safe to say accidents in pro wrestling can sometimes provide a great outcome!
