WWE Clash of Champions 2020 is ready to take place on the upcoming Sunday, September 27, 2020. The event is the sixteenth WWE pay-per-view this year and the fourth installment in the Clash of Champions chronology.

Marketed and promoted as “Gold Rush,” the pay-per-view will put every active WWE Championship on the line. Generally, this does not happen because the main roster currently has 10 championships including the 24/7 title.

Some matches are repeated but many are unexpected. Due to the pandemic, the event would not have a live audience but fans can stream the show live on WWE Network.

There are nine confirmed matches as of now.

WWE Clash of Champions matches

Universal Championship Match – Roman Reigns (C) vs. Jey Uso

This is arguably the most sought after match of the night. The returning “Tribal Chief” won the Universal Championship at Payback 2020.

This will be his first title defense, that too against his real-life cousin Jey Uso.

This is Uso’s first singles/world title opportunity. He sneaked into the number one contender’s match on SmackDown, thanks to Big E’s injury and Roman Reigns’ insistence.

Is Uso being set up for a betrayal by the champion? Or could this match be a stepping stone for something even bigger in the future? There are a lot of possibilities. Hopefully, WWE will make sure they use the opportunity to its fullest extent.

WWE Championship Ambulance Match – Drew McIntyre (C) vs. Randy Orton

The rivalry between Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre is probably the oldest one in the PPV. Starting from SummerSlam 2020, it has grown intense with each event.

With Randy attacking McIntyre and the vice versa every week, the Ambulance Match stipulation came as no surprise. If the ‘Viper’ has his punt and RKO, the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ is ready with his Claymore Kick.

With Orton’s vow to win his 14th Title and McIntyre’s will to teach the ‘Viper’ a lesson, this promises to be the most heated match in the WWE Clash of Champions 2020 lineup.

Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Winner Takes All Ladder Match – Jeff Hardy (C) vs. AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn

Jeff Hardy won the Intercontinental title after defeating AJ Styles on SmackDown. Naturally, AJ asked for a rematch at Clash of Champions but Sami Zayn entered the scene to make things more interesting.

Sami Zayn claimed he never lost his title and that both AJ and Jeff were “frauds.” Post that, he interrupted numerous matches involving Styles and Hardy, staking his claim to the Intercontinental Championship.

Last week, a frustrated Hardy announced the triple threat ladder match to determine the undisputed champion. Even though ladder matches are Hardy’s specialty, his opponents are equally good. The match will be a delight for the slightly hardcore fans as well.

Raw Women’s Championship  – Asuka (C) vs. Zelina Vega (Kick-off show)

This match had caused a havoc among the fans when it was first announced. Many believed that it should have been Mickie James instead of Zelina, who simply went up to Asuka and challenged her for the title.

Next week, she defeated veteran Mickie James and earned her spot. WWE moved this to the pre-show to avoid more fan criticism.

Considering Vega’s new entry to the main roster and Asuka’s ongoing reign since Payback, there is nothing interesting to look forward to.

SmackDown Women’s Championship Match – Bayley (C) vs. Nikki Cross

Nikki Cross earned her title opportunity against Bayley by winning a fatal-four way match. However, Bayley seems least interested in Cross. The Champion is continuing her rivalry with former best friend Sasha Banks.

Sasha Banks and Bayley have been embroiled in a long brewing storyline. Sooner or later, Banks will recover and go after Bayley’s title. Cross, on the other hand, has her best friend Alexa Bliss to take care of.

The SmackDown Women’s title match is nothing but a filler. In short, Nikki Cross is just a placeholder for Sasha Banks till she is ready to compete.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match – The Street Profits (C) vs. Andrade & Angel Garza

The longest-reigning Raw Tag Team Champions, The Street Profits, will battle Andrade & Angel Garza for the titles.

On the last episode of Raw, Andrade & Garza outlasted Dominik Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo and Seth Rollins & Murphy in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match to earn another championship opportunity.

Without the distraction of Zelina Vega, Andrade and Garza have a nice chance at hand. We have to see whether they will claim the fame or lose like SummerSlam 2020.

SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match – Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro (C) vs. Lucha House Party

Lucha House Party have been at the top of their game but Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro have continued to crush their title dreams. However, Kalisto’s has caused friction within Lucha House Party.
Gran Metalik & Kalisto had defeated the champions with some help from Street Profits to earn another shot at the titles. However, on the last episode of SmackDown, Kalisto and Dorado were banned from ringside and Cesaro scored the win as he pinned Gran Metalik in a singles match.

Can Lucha House Party finally win the titles? Or will The King of Strong Style & The Swiss Cyborg again put them in their place? We will have to watch out.

Women’s Tag Team Championship Match  – Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (C) vs. The Riott Squad

The dysfunctional team of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler has lasted longer than anticipated. Even though the duo could not bear each other, they have been delivering good matches.

Riott Squad, on the other hand, have recently reunited and are going after the titles. On the last episode of Raw, they defeated Natalya and Lana for the title opportunity.

WWE is definitely building the Women’s division nicely and Clash of Champions will be a litmus test for their efforts.

United States Championship Match – Bobby Lashley (C) vs. Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews lost his United States Championship in the first match of Payback 2020. At the upcoming PPV,  Crews has a chance at redemption.

Taking Lashley’s affiliation to Hurt Business and recent clash with Retribution into account, chances of interruption and disqualification are high. WWE could also add stipulations at the last minute.

None the less, the match is going to be a good one.

The event starts on Sunday, September 27, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m., with the kick-off starting one hour prior. The match will be streamed live from WWE ThunderDome in Orlando.
