Professional wrestling might be scripted, but the performers run a real risk of picking up serious injuries. The wrestling folklore is full of instances where athletes got legitimately hurt and had to spend time on the sidelines. This may be a result of a mistake on the wrestler’s part or commonly through accident.

Hence, a lot of training is involved in the safe execution of a move so that it does minimal damage to the opponent. However, sometimes mishaps do happen even after taking all the precautions in the ring. Such was the case with a WWE legend who was on the receiving end of a trademark move from The Undertaker.

The legend in question is none other than WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. ‘The King of Hardcore’ had several battles with The Phenom during his time in the promotion. Both wrestlers went out of their way to entertain the fans, taking sick bumps, which definitely took a heavy toll on their bodies.

Mick Foley talked about his rivalry with The Undertaker in 1996 during a recent episode of his Foley is Pod podcast. The former wrestler highlighted how feuding with Taker was no mean feat and he had to suffer even after taking a routine move.

Foley recounts taking a ‘simple’ bump from The Undertaker

He said, I remember wrestling The Undertaker in Fayetteville, North Carolina, just a regular chokeslam which was not the finish, we went a few minutes more, but I can feel this internal bleeding coming up. And I finished the last couple of minutes looking like Dizzy Gillespie on a hot trumpet solo, you know, because my mouth was just full of internal blood.

That’s a tough one to take because if you take it wrong, you’re gonna pay for it for a few days.” completed the hardcore legend.

The Deadman boasted a towering frame of almost 7 feet and weighed over 300 pounds during his wrestling days. And the wrestling faithful would be sympathetic to the troubles that Foley would have gone through while taking a move from him. It’s not that Foley would be fazed by that, as he went on to have several blockbuster encounters with Taker.

The iconic Hell in a Cell match in 1998

The most notable encounter between the two came at the 1998 King of the Ring event. Two of the most jaw-dropping bumps in wrestling history were involved in the Hell In a Cell match. The first one involved The Phenom throwing Foley from the roof of the enclosure to the announcer’s desk.

In the second instance, the Undertaker choke slammed the legend through the roof into the ring. They left the watching audience in the arena, stunned by the sheer dangerousness of the spots.
