WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg challenged Drew McIntyre for his WWE Championship. In his illustrious career, Goldberg is yet to win the coveted title, making this bout super important for his legacy.

Goldberg returned to WWE after last year’s WrestleMania, where he lost his Universal title to Braun Strowman. While Goldberg has his own streak of winning every title he has challenged for, the Scottish Psychopath was not ready to back down.

On his return to the ring, Goldberg shocked the fans with an attire change for the first time in his career. The former World Champion entered the ring wearing shorts with his logo on them. This was a fresh change from his usual black tights.

While some fans welcomed the change, others were not so happy with it and pointed towards the similarity with Brock Lesnar’s attire. See some fan reactions below –

Drew McIntyre ended Goldberg in a squash match

WWE was already facing some criticism for playing fake cheers during Goldberg’s entrance. However, when the match started, both men brawled all over and outside the ring.

While McIntyre looked dominant for most of the match, Goldberg tried his best to outdo him. Both men kicked out of each other’s infamous finishers, i.e. spear and the claymore kick.

However, things started going south for Goldberg when McIntyre kicked out of his Jackhammer at the last moment. McIntyre gathered whatever he had left and hit another claymore to Goldberg and got the win. With that, McIntyre also broke Goldberg’s streak of winning every title he’s competed for on first attempt.

After the quick squash match, Goldberg was visibly exhausted. He somehow managed to get up on his knees.

Goldberg limped to McIntyre and said, “You passed the test. You deserve it.” It seemed McIntyre had earned the Hall of Famer’s respect as both men embraced.

The legendary wrestler then slowly walked out of the building. The match seemed like a rite of passage where the old generation was passing the torch to the new one.

As the first match of the night, it definitely garnered some attention. After all the hype, no one thought WWE will book Goldberg and McIntyre in a squash match. Matt Riddle was right after all.
