Vince McMahon was forced to believe in Rey Mysterio

Heavyweights such as Andre the Giant, Big Show, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, and Braun Strowman always received special treatment from McMahon, because of being heavyweights. His obsession with heavyweight wrestlers was unreal, as he believed only they had the potential to shine.

Olympic Gold Medalist and WWE Legend, Kurt Angle revealed how Vince McMahon was uncertain about pushing Rey Mysterio. However, once he pushed Mysterio, and once he connected with the fans, McMahon’s perception changed.

Kurt Angle said on his The Kurt Angle Show, “Yes, Vince was not very keen on a smaller guy making it to the main event.” However, Angle revealed how someone convinced McMahon to push Mysterio. And once he did, it proved him wrong.

Angle claimed, “Somebody talked him into it. And he did it that night, and from then on, Rey was a main eventer. Vince was wrong.” Rey Mysterio fought for the World title at WrestleMania 22. After winning the Royal Rumble that year, he later won the title as well.

The underdog Rey Mysterio is truly a legend of the game. He has been an icon for all Lucha Libres, as well as WWE Superstars. His success as a cruiserweight in the dominating land of heavyweights has truly been one of the most iconic moments of the industry.

Being biased would have hurt Vince McMahon a lot in the last two decades. And Mysterio might not have been worth $10 million.
