‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair is like fine wine. From his debut in December 1972 until his retirement, and even now – the 16-time World Champion only got better with age in his professional wrestling career.

With such an illustrious and long career that spanned four decades, ‘Nature Boy’ still continues to appear and be a part of wrestling in one way or another. And for a man who’s had such a legendary career, the goodbye must’ve been very hard.

Ric Flair and his tussle with retirement

The ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair retired at WrestleMania 24 in an iconic and emotional match against Shawn Michaels. It marked the end of a career unlike any other in the history of professional wrestling and sports entertainment.

WWE recently shared an excerpt from the WWE 24 Ric Flair: The Final Farewell documentary. In the excerpt, Shawn Michaels and Triple H talk about how difficult it was for Ric Flair to take up retirement.

10-time WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair also shared how she shouldn’t have said a few things that she said to her father back in the day while insisting him to retire.

“I mean, I wish I could go back, and you know, not have said some of the things that I’ve said or been, it’s been hard on him. I was just like ‘Retire! You’re sixty. Live your life.’ ‘Why are you having such a hard time?’ and like, ‘Do your coughings, and all emotional.’ I just didn’t, I didn’t get it. I didn’t get why he just couldn’t let go.”

But after having such a long career, the ‘Dirtiest Player In The Game’ wasn’t sitting idle after retirement. Ric Flair signed with TNA in 2010 and wrestled a few matches. He wrestled his last match in September 2011 on an episode of Impact! against ‘The Icon’ Sting.

‘The Stylin and Profilin’ was last seen at WWE Survivor Series last week for The Undertaker’s final farewell. Before the appearance past Sunday, he managed Randy Orton before the ‘Legend Killer’ turned on him. He was also involved in the Orton and Drew McIntyre championship feud.

The Two-time Hall of Famer is surely not done with the business. Even if he can’t wrestle at this age, each time the ‘Nature Boy’ cuts a promo, you know it’s gonna be damn good. There can be no other ‘Limousine Ridin, Jet Flyin, rolex wearin, son of a gun.’
