The match was the fourth one of the night. John Cena and Rusev brawled all over the arena as they fought in the ring, into the crowd, and the production area.

Rusev eventually applied the “accolade” on Cena, and Cena passed out. However, the referee informed Rusev that the match could only end when someone quits, so the match continued.

In the end, Cena ended up using the ring ropes with the STF he applied to Rusev. Lana claimed Rusev was yelling “I Quit” in Bulgarian. As Lana was Rusev’s manager and the only native speaker (kayfabe) of  Bulgarian, the referee obliged. Cena retained the title.

Cena and Rusev both did a fantastic job in the match.

Since then, five years have passed. WWE recently released Rusev due to its budget cuts for the COVID-19 pandemic. Rusev was furious and announced his retirement from professional wrestling.

We may never see the two together in a squared circle again. Still, the throwback was surely appreciated by fans worldwide.
