At WrestleMania 37, the fans will be back in a WWE arena after one year. Before that, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns discussed the fans’ expectations, and how he deals with negative reactions from social media.

Throughout the first half of his WWE career, Reigns was criticized for multiple reasons. Some fans felt WWE was overusing him more than he deserved. However, with time and his ‘return’ last year, Reigns proved all his haters wrong.

Another controversy arose during WrestleMania 36 last year when he refused to take part in the Universal Title match against Goldberg. Although he was scheduled to win the match, Reigns did not want to put him and his family at the risk of being exposed to the virus in the wake of the pandemic.

Talking to Ariel Helwani recently, Reigns described how he deals with toxic social media and negative criticism. “I try to do my best to be ‘bulletproof’ in a sense and not allow it to affect me and understand… take it for what it is,” Roman said.

According to him, there was a time people would get smacked if “you ran your mouth in a wrong way.” However, people back then had facts to back whatever they were saying.

“We are in a very uncertain time,” Reigns referred to the pandemic. Hence, he addressed the WrestleMania 36 rumors back then.

“It was one of those fall-off-the-edge moments where people were just saying anything they wanted to say. But I thought it was important that you hear it from me (on) why this was happening.”

Family comes first for Roman Reigns

As he had mentioned in multiple interviews before, Roman Reigns is the ultimate family man. Back then as well, he would not have done anything to harm his family’s health and well-being.

“When it comes to my family, I’ll never put anything before that. There have been many times that I put my career and the opportunity to provide before them (first). But when it comes down to our health and our mental and emotional well-being, I’d never put anything material, financial over that.”

Reigns recalled how it was a “polarizing” time for him. While many fans were rooting for him, some wanted him to retire. Fans were “just being disrespectful” to his career and what he had done.

However, the past nine/ten months have been pivotal for Reigns as he claimed his throne with the heel turn. It is as if Reigns has embraced the negativities thrown his way and channeled them to be the “Tribal Chief” he is today.
