There are on-going speculations that Randy Orton is considering the idea to work with NXT stars at SummerSlam.

The most likely opponents are Tomasso Ciampa and Adam Cole.

This decision comes after Orton’s original opponent, Edge, was ruled out due to a triceps injury.

Edge reportedly suffered the injury after the match at Backlash.

In fact, it was Orton himself who was pushing for a match with Cole or Ciampa after learning about Edge’s injury.

Lack of heels might result in Randy Orton facing Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam

However, there is a concern that needs to be taken care of.

Currently, RAW is going through a phase where they don’t have enough heels.

This might force Randy Orton to work with a fellow main roster star.

So, even with Orton’s pitch to work with NXT stars, the biggest possibility as of now is him going up against WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.

In this instance, another consideration is Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam.

Rumors are that Lesnar will be pitted against Drew McIntyre. On the other hand, fans have been eagerly waiting for the Lesnar-Lashley match as well.

However, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton are two of the best performing male stars of the company.

In fact, over the course of 2020, Orton has successfully positioned himself to be the most likely challenger for McIntyre.

The McIntyre-Orton match is an ideal headline for SummerSlam given that it is one of the flagship shows for the company.

Obviously, given the current situation of RAW, Randy Orton vs Drew McIntyre is most likely the match that will proceed.

As of now, he is the best opponent for McIntyre.

However, if not at SummerSlam, the two of them could possibly end up with a match at WrestleMania 37.

Given McIntyre’s history of having feuds with a different wrestler every month, it is likely that WWE will be focusing on building towards a Orton-McIntyre feud.

If WWE successfully builds this feud, then it will be one of the defining ones in McIntyre’s reign as WWE champion.

It will be interesting to see WWE build this feud if the company plans to proceed with the Drew-Orton match.
