The past one or two years, Randy Orton has found himself in the midst of an emerging debate in professional wrestling. NXT and AEW along with other independent wrestling promotions have given rise to a new brand of sports entertainment.
High flying moves and awe inspiring spots have become the norm. That makes for a more entertaining match but it also puts wrestlers at more risk. Just a slight mishap in the execution of a dangerous move can cause career threatening injuries.
Superstars like Randy Orton have refused to adapt to this new style. Orton still considers himself a purist. He’s a believer in Jim Cornette‘s philosophy and believes that wrestling was never supposed to be a “circus” that pleads for claps from casual audiences.

“If you only get 3 or 4 years of a career with the WWE because you did a lot of careless and reckless moves, you have to look back and kick yourself in the ass and wish that you didn’t. Smarter, not harder. When it comes down to it, this is a business, we all need to make money. You can’t destroy your body and make no money doing it and then you end up working at McDonalds because you never went to college and you destroyed your neck in the ring. There has to be a purpose and that purpose is getting paid.
