The moniker suited him and went with his loudmouth and unapologetic character. Not to mention, it also helped him build an instant connection with the audience. Hence, it would surprise everyone that UFC veteran Ken Shamrock has recently claimed that The Rock was originally his nickname.

Shamrock claims he was the original Rock and not Dwayne Johnson

Shamrock recently sat down with the Wrestling Shoot Interviews podcast. It is notable that he had previously been addressed as Ken ‘The Rock’ Shamrock in UFC before joining WWE. He was asked whether he ever told Johnson about him using the same moniker.

Shamrock replied, “I never came at him like that. But because when he started using The Rock, I said hey bro you know I was the Rock first right and he was like, he looked at me very confused then I had a contract where I had all that carved out so I said bro no seriously I got it in my contact.
